Update: Now there is an online consultation going on -- see http://copyright.econsultation.ca/ and http://speakoutoncopyright.ca/. It ends September 13, 2009.
The Globe and Mail has put the C-61 copyright reform bill on their wiki to be edited. This is a great chance to apply some sense to the proposal in line with free software principles and remove the bad portions.

While these articles talk about US copyright law, the idea that copyright's purpose is to promote authorship and thus benefit the public is accepted in the legal tradition of the English-speaking world, not just in the US.
