Mingle at the FSF office before the conference with speakers and other attendees. Refreshments will be served. Come say hi! This office is where we fight for your software freedom every day, and it's full of historical material and memorabilia, along with a display of Respects Your Freedom (RYF) certified hardware, a collection of stuffed gnus and penguins, and an enormous GNU mascot head. Registration passes can be collected at the open house, but you'll have to wait until the conference for your T-shirt.
Just before the festivities start, we invite all women and non-binary people to come have dinner with us. This is a space for people who have been traditionally excluded to feel at home, and find ways for people of similar backgrounds to participate in the free software movement. Plus, you'll get to meet Zoƫ and Greg from the FSF!
After the first conference day, we gather at Za Restaurant in Cambridge, just across the water in celebration of LibrePlanet and Pi day. Pi-zza -- vegan and non-vegan -- is provided, and your first drink is on us.
How to get there: If you take a cab, this is a fifteen-minute trip. If you take the Boston subway train, there are two possible routes:
Orange Line train: Get on at Back Bay station, and take an Oak Grove train to Downtown Crossing. Follow signs to transfer to a Red Line train bound for Alewife, and take that train to Kendall/MIT station. Walk upstairs to Main Street, and take the nearby left onto Third Street; Za is at 350 Third Street. (If you pass a Clover Restaurant on Main Street, you're walking in the wrong direction, so turn around and head back.)
Green Line train: Get on at Arlington station, and take a Government Center / North Station / Lechmere-bound train (any letter) to Park Street station. Follow signs to transfer to a Red Line train bound for Alewife; follow the rest of the directions above.
You can also cling to any FSF staff member at LibrePlanet, and they will escort you to where you want to be!
Looking for a little quieter social time? The FSF office will be open late for hacking and hanging out. Snacks, drinks, and power will be provided! Please be aware that this is an alcohol-free event.
The office is at 51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
If you are looking to organize your own dinner or meetup, you can do so using the LibrePlanet wiki 2020 conference social and dinner pages as a central place for communication about this.
