Introduction

Many laptops still have non-free software[1] that initialises the hardware before loading the operating system. Theses laptops are discussed here.

Some of theses laptops are able to run 100% free GNU/Linux distribution out of the box.

But the software[1] that does the very first hardware initialisation isn't part of the GNU/Linux distributions. Instead it's bundled inside the laptop itself[2]
