Maybe also, it would be useful to have a list of laptops/motherboards/desktops that have their BIOS in ROM instead of flash? Whilst the chip may still be proprietary, the code cannot be changed by the user, so may be considered, by some, free. Not sure how this list could be obtained. Wikipedia has a list of motherboard manufacturers, also these manufacturers might have access to sources for their chips and might be willing to share? Perhaps even some newer computers are being made with their BIOSes in ROM?

TODO:

  • Factorize the common information
  • Update the information
  • split the pages in 3, like with the non-free distros vs free distro fsf pages.
    • Good laptop(lemote, glugglug)
    • Common bad laptops => like common-non-free distros, explain why they are bad
    • Laptops that need work => make it clear that only developer who intend to work on it should buy it.
  • Add rationales and explanations, especially after the split
