This website is for developers to try out new ideas and debug code, templates, and functions. It may be the future of FSF Groups, or not. Many ideas will be tried, but not all accepted.

Most of our effort will be on designing templates that will structure pages and provide intuitive site navigation. The ultimate goal is to allow groups to coordinate their activities and utilize each member's skills effectively.

Currently, users are accepted as group members based on good faith and trust. It is recognized that pages can be freely edited and this can result in unwanted changes to group membership. To minimize this, we should provide some features that ensure members remain members and prospective members are approved by the group.

Templates

This page is an example of what the proposed website templates will produce. The main template consists of three other templates:

Group/Menubar
The menubar provides standard links, which serve several purposes:
  • Structure the website by defining specific subpages. Each of these pages will have their own template and link back to this page.
  • Provide navigation within the website and between namespaces. The Project link points to the Project namespace, while the Usage link accesses the Help namespace.
  • Create group-wide categories which can be navigated independently from any group's page. To find out the different requirements to join, simiply access the Join category. Similarly, for FAQ, News, and Mission statements.
Group/Title
Displays the first word in one colour and the rest in another. The note field (text between the lines) can act as an alert, or message of the day, or simply the group's slogan.
Group/Box
The info box provides useful data about the group and how it can be contacted.
Region
All regions should appear in Category:Regions and this should link to one of its sub-categories (e.g. Category:Regions/Web_only). Until the region schema has been finalized, this should link to the current Regions page.
Area
As with Regions, this should link to the Category:Area sub-page (e.g. Category:Area/Web_only). However, the current practice is to link to the appropriate Area page.
Language
Identifies the group's primary language, although it can be a list of acceptable languages.
Website
Where a group has an official website, it can be linked to from here.
List
A public mailing list for anyone to send mail. The list may have its own restrictions, so it need not be public at all. If a group has more than one list, they can shown here.
Contact
The primary member responsible for the group. The contact must be registered on FSF Groups and this field provides a link to the User page.
Members
This is not particularly useful, it just gives the total members in the group. Once the membership sub-system is finalized, this may be used or replaced.

Group
This template wraps the others and provides all the necessary fields. It handles the description and subpages itself.

An example of the Group template is shown below:

{{Template:Group
|title=
|note=
|region=
|area=
|language=
|website=
|list=
|contact=
|members=
|description=
}}
