Joining a Team

Joining a local team is as easy as navigating to your regional category and seeing if there is a LibrePlanet Team listed which should have instructions on how to join. Membership can be anything from silent support of the team and following activities/discussion (casually referred to as "lurking") all the way to taking initiative and assuming a prominent role of leadership. Obviously, everyone is encouraged to aim for the latter!

Missing Teams

LibrePlanet is young and most regions still do not have teams set up! If you are interested in becoming involved locally, you have two options:

  • If you are unable to dedicate the time to be the lead organizer, please create a temporary page using the instructions below and link to it prominently from the regional page. Instead of the normal content, however, simply include a disclaimer that the page is a temporary placeholder, a link back to this page, and a link of people interested in joining (starting with yourself) plus how to contact them once the group is established.
  • You may start the team yourself if you are willing to spearhead the task of leading it, at least until someone else can help out or take over. Link to instructions below.

Running a Team

All members are encouraged to help run their local team and whatever efforts it has running, or to lead new undertakings for the team. The task of operating a LibrePlanet team can be a fun challenge. Anyone can do it, but by no means does leadership need to be handled by just one person.

Establish the Team

See instructions on starting up a local LibrePlanet team here.

Activities

Your LibrePlanet team should keep as active as possible! Teams are about connecting people involved with free software who can help each other, advocating free software, and ringing in new users.

Recruiting

Recruiting is really important when trying to get your team off the ground. Reach out to everyone you know who may possibly be interested and make a list of local free software and GNU/Linux user groups. Draft an email announcing the LibrePlanet Team and asking for at least one person from the group to act as the contact to coordinate collaboration between the teams and keep them in touch with each other.

Collaboration

LibrePlanet groups are broad and should always help those who are working in line with our mission.

Social Gatherings

Have them!
