Google Chrome OS is a proprietary operating system based on GNU/Linux and created by Google.

Problem

Chrome OS promote SaaSS (Service as a Software Substitute). Chromebooks have a little hard disk, but all user data is stored online, in Google Drive.

If you read this essay by RMS, you know store your data online is bad if you do not crypt that. Of course, Chrome OS do not crypt it. Chrome OS have just Chrome as an interface. We can only use online services, which is bad.
RMS talks about it here (fr).

Chrome OS SaaSS

  1. The data is stored online, on Google Drive.
  2. The word processor, spreadsheet, etc. are online, it's Google Docs.
  3. The printing system is online too, named Google Cloud Print and only compatible with some printers.
  4. The calendar is Google Calendar, an online calendar.
  5. Google Music and Google Books are SaaSS too. With Books, Google can do things like when Amazon destroys 1984's copies. Amazon do it with a backdoor, Google do not needs backdoors, because Google Books is a SaaSS.

Google proprietary software

  1. All Google services use proprietary JavaScript. The problem is two : proprietary software on the client, SaaSS on the server.
  2. Chrome is proprietary.
  3. Chrome OS is proprietary.
