Probably many of you know the *wikipedia comparison pages*, e.g. for BitTorrent clients[1] or web browsers[2].

Although good freeware does exist, I usually am looking for FOSS software only. And those pages do not provide much help in gaining a quick overview or a comfortable way to sort for the features I am looking for. They obfuscate information, are often unmaintained and, well, generally full of .. poop.

If one would bother to create such a comparison page for FOSS software only, I am quite sure, this would be deleted. So I am looking for alternatives to the wikipedia. I could imagine, [1][3] could be it. Suggestions?

One vague example, of what I am looking for is this: active FOSS BitTorrent clients[4]

Another wikipedia problem, is the deletion of pages for "not notable" software. While, e.g. UbuntuUsers.de[5] dedicates an informative page to Aqualung, which is useful to the reader, while on the wikipedia, aqualung is "not notable software". So clearly, too many FOSS articles are not welcomed in the wikipedia, and work upon such is being hindered or deleted. I would rather not waste any more time fighting the very intelligent persons responsible for this, and get myself involved somewhere else. Suggestions?

The target would be mainly Windows and Mac OS users, since most Linux distributions already groom wikis for software in their repositories. Much redundant work by the way.

What do you think?

My whole idea is based on my own interest, on the wikipedia comparison pages and also on this: http://pdfreaders.org/[6] by the FSFE, which is a bit ridiculous compared to what I have in mind. There is much more FOSS software then pdf-readers, and the authors of FOSS would deserve a platform to present their work, far away from the wikipedia.
