The Education Team

[This is a draft]

Our team was born to carry out the specific task of building an Education section within the gnu.org website because we believe that the achievements of the GNU Project must be applied to the education field if they are expected to have an influence towards a better society.

The Team provides an answer to the need for a comprehensive approach to the adoption of Free Software in educational institutions. Its aim is to promote and encourage the use of Free Software in universities and schools of all levels, emphasizing awareness of the positive impact of Free Software on society as a whole. We believe that, along with technical support and availability of adequate free educational programs, an improved understanding of the fundamentals of the GNU philosophy will significantly aid the decisional process. This approach will ensure success and effectiveness of the migration experience over time.

With that goal in mind, we intend to:

  • Present cases of educational institutions around the world who have successfully implemented Free Software.
  • Show examples of how some Free programs can be successfully used to improve the learning and teaching processes.
  • Maintain a dialogue with educational institutions to listen to their difficulties and provide support.
  • Keep in contact with other groups around the world committed to the promotion of Free Software in education.
  • Publish articles which deal with the various aspects involved in the use of Free Software by educational institutions.

If you would like to help us or join the Team, please drop us a note at <education@gnu.org> telling us about you and how you can contribute to our effort.
