Details

The talk will be an overview of Joomla, the free software content management software that is used to create and manage websites. The talk will include:

  • What you can do with Joomla
  • Why, when, and where you'd want to use Joomla
  • How to set up Joomla
  • What to avoid
  • How to expand Joomla

Tim has worked as a software engineer for the past five years on all manner of projects using all sorts or proprietary and non-proprietary software. In his spare time, he does a lot of development using free software tools and programming languages and wherever possible tries to influence his peers to do the same. He started off doing web-development at about 13 using Microsoft Word and producing some truly horrendous results. Happily since then he's seen the light and now use free software tools wherever possible and is happiest when sat in front of a screen full of code.

Location

The meeting will take place at the usual time, 7pm, at Madlab on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter. "(Between Thomas St and the Craft Centre, opposite A Bar Called Common)". We will be located upstairs. The venue provides wifi. The talk is followed by an informal discussion in the bar opposite (A Place Called Common).
