The card catalogue is essentially a library, bibliographic material with the authors
the complexity of libraries led to a very complicated indexing, with long and detailed standards. Using the MARC format which was designed when storage space was precious.
But now! there is some internal support this MARC format.
Libraries use microsoft because the main branches decide, so it's not up to librarians.
