Author Comments: | Please note that I have submitted my idea not as a finished product, but more a concept.
I liked the idea by Pete Morris with the simple text but emphasis of the "free" using simple colour. The use of symbols such as the disc and the basic bee seemed a good idea, as did the use of a small amount of colours. However, I was not keen on the idea of the padlock and floppy disc which seem old fashioned. With that I wonder whether or not the disc and the bee could be simply combined together, with the disc symbolising the software, and the bee clearly standing for Manchester. This would be a very basic design that could be adapted easily to use for such graphics as favicon's and logos. It could easily be used and adapted for such things as t-shirts and advertising, plus cheaper printing costs. Now I fully accept that my bee looks like some strange bulb with odd blobs that resemble wings, but I have simply thrown this together on the understanding that it could be put to the members with a view towards a collaboration to improve the further design of the concept, but yet stick with a basic design using just the disc and the bee. This could also appeal to those who wished to further play with the basic idea and maybe submit 3-D designs for other users, if they want to. I apologise for the rough graphics but hope you understood the concept. |

Author Comments: | This is the basic version of idea1 with other versions below. Mfsg combined with the "hidden geek" in there also. Bottom of S and the hole of the g is the head if you can't see it. I wanted something that was simple unique and worked in just black as well as with colours to offer some flexibility. The hidden geek could be used separately if desired. I have versions done |

Author Comments: | This is idea2 following versions are variations on the same theme just to give folk some ideas. The basic idea was to have a free software super hero that was unique and again would print in just black. The idea of the gaps "all joined by electro magnets :)" was that there is possibility to manipulate the arms and legs so it could be used in differing ways a little more easily. |
