This is an attempt to create a vaguely coherent list of free software-using community projects in the Manchester area. For each project, it'd be great to have:

Location St Wilfrid's Church, Royce Road, Hulme ,M15 5BJ.
Intention Autonomous, reflective, creative - a project to bring together the people of Hulme in a social space. Running workshops on computer recycling and free software, amongst others.
Method Five standalone computers, donated by Salford Uni.

Stalled Projects

Marbella Cafe

Location Currently undecided
Intention A social space, with a cafe and arts gallery. This is currently being rethought.
Method We have reused the hardware from the #Basement Social Centre along with some donated hardware (namely the server). We currently have an LTSP cluster with 4 desktops.
Issues Location has changed from the Northern Quarter, currently MCC are still looking for somewhere.

Inactive Projects

Free Space Manchester

Location Zion Arts Centre, Hulme
Intention The project exists to provide access to and information about free sofware to young people in Hulme.
Method We have reused the hardware from the #Basement Social Centre along with some hardware from Zion. We currently have an LTSP cluster with 4 desktops.
Issues We are having trouble getting reliable Internet connectivity at Zion, which is hampering development efforts, usage of the suite, and remote administration.

Basement Social Centre

Location Lever Street, Manchester
Intention To provide a free software Internet suite for visitors to the Basement Social Centre cafe.
Method Working as a collective, setting up an LTSP suite of five machines. Guest access for visitors to the cafe, plus regular login accounts for users and groups at the Centre to store and share files.
Issues The Basement Social Centre closed after fire and flooding, ending this project.
