About Us

In the earliest stage of forming, the LibrePlanet Missouri Team will organize to promote the ideals of free software and digital rights as fundamental to a modern free society. We operate in accordance with the LibrePlanet Mission Statement and Code of Conduct.

Direct Action gets the Goods!

My plan, at this early stage is to build a kind of user group. My starting point is just myself offering presentations and assistance to local folks. I'm in a rural area, 90 miles south of St. Louis. Only 4,500 live in this town. But the local library and a local non-profit are interested in supporting a project to UpCycle old computers and offer training to use them. That is the initial core of this project.

Like much of rural America, rural Missouri is relatively impoverished which means generally lower levels of access and adoption of technology and training. Given the lower level of financial resources, areas such as ours would greatly benefit from grassroots projects that help extend the life of older computers while also offering training in the use of GNU/Linux and Free Software.

A long-term goal would to see other rural counties and towns in the state offer similar projects through local libraries or similar public spaces.

  1. General advocacy to the public about GNU+Linux and Free Software
    1. Events Tabling
    2. Group presentations
  2. Offer on-the-ground support to aid in the adoption by the public of GNU+Linux and Free Software
    1. GNU+Linux Install Events and appointments
    2. Small classes and workshops
