Talk: Turkey
Can we talk to these groups about changing their name to GNU/Linux user groups, or about becoming LibrePlanet groups? See http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html. Are the GNU/Linux distributions here fully free distributions as in http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html? We need to be careful about what we list here, and make sure that we are encouraging the projects that are most supportive of user freedom. --johns 18:13, 24 March 2009 (EDT)
- This page should list areas within Turkey, which groups can link to via their group page. If the users are not prepared to create their user and group pages, I see this is simply advertising open source, and should be deleted. Users of other groups cannot use LP groups to promote their groups, they must only deal with LP issues on this site. So we're looking for the actual users who signed up, not the groups they're advertising. If the users are prepared to create an LP group, np, but they cannot put LKD info on their group unless it is relevant to LP. --Blacky 20:16, 24 March 2009 (EDT)
- I agree, I moved them to the Talk page here, because I think the way that we can handle this is to list groups that could be approached about becoming more friendly to LibrePlanet and free software can be listed on Talk pages. If they are approached and they say they don't agree with the basic LibrePlanet goals, then it doesn't make sense to have them listed here.--johns 12:17, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
Organizations
Would someone like to approach these groups to see if they would be willing to change their names and language to be more friendly to free software (GNU/Linux rather than Linux)? --johns 12:19, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
GNU/Linux Distributions
Here is a list of GNU/Linux distributions originating from Turkey. We need to see if these distributions meet the FSF guidelines for free system distributions. If so, then we can list them both on gnu.org and on the Turkey page here. If not, then we should talk to them and see if we can help them move toward being fully free, and if they would like to commit to that.--johns 12:19, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
