Starting the project from Kexi I think is not of much help, if the project goal is to make it able for Oracle users to switch to free software. We better would be starting the work on creating an old version of SQL*Forms, SQL*Reportwriter and SQL*Menu and SQL*Plus, and then develop these programs into their current form.

Hi John,

Let me know where/how to start.

Israel: I´ll say we fist define the requirements.

I saw this announcement about this project on the fsf website, and have the following remarks:

1. Do we need a source compatible Oracle forms client?

2. Would it need to be able also to log into Oracle databases (and other free databases)?

3. Why not include other client tools like a compatible tool for SQL*Plus and Reportwriter?

4. Perhaps also Designer.

and...

5. Why not make a free version of Oracle database (V6 or V7) itself?
