This is an attempt to create a vaguely coherent list of free software-using community projects in the Manchester area. For each project, it'd be great to have:

A social space, with a cafe and arts gallery. This is currently being rethought.

We have reused the hardware from the #Basement Social Centre along with some donated hardware (namely the server). We currently have an LTSP cluster with 4 desktops.

Zion Arts Centre, Hulme

Intention
|
The project exists to provide access to and information about free sofware to young people in Hulme.

Method
|
We have reused the hardware from the #Basement Social Centre along with some hardware from Zion. We currently have an LTSP cluster with 4 desktops.

Issues
|
We are having trouble getting reliable Internet connectivity at Zion, which is hampering development efforts, usage of the suite, and remote administration.

Basement Social Centre
Location
|
Lever Street, Manchester

Intention
|
To provide a free software Internet suite for visitors to the Basement Social Centre cafe.
|
Method
|
Working as a collective, setting up an LTSP suite of five machines. Guest access for visitors to the cafe, plus regular login accounts for users and groups at the Centre to store and share files.
|
Issues
|
The Basement Social Centre closed after fire and flooding, ending this project.
|
