Day Against DRM Web Site

The International Day Against DRM is an opportunity to unite a wide range of projects, public interest organizations, web sites and individuals in an effort to raise public awareness to the danger of technology that requires users to give-up control of their computers or that restricts access to digital data and media. This year, we'll be helping individuals and groups work together to create local actions in their communities — actions will range from protesting an unfriendly hardware vendor to handing out informative fliers at local public libraries!

Interested in planning an event? Please join the DRM Elimination crew discussion list. If you're looking for help with the organizing process, don't hesitate to send an email asking if there are others in your area -- the list has people all over the world. Once you've decided to host an event, please add it to this page, along with any necessary contact information. It's good to add it as soon as you have a date and contact info, even if you're still working out the details. Make sure to include the what, where, and when, along with your contact info for potential attendees. For event ideas, see last year's list of events . If you host one, please send photos to info@defectivebydesign.org.

We'll distribute information about DRM in front of the office of the MPAA and RIAA, major industry groups that coordinate lobbying for laws that support DRM and unjust prosecution of those that circumvent it. Our last stop will be the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, to call attention to DRM's harm on libraries, and celebrate the possibility of a DRM-free future.

The goal of the teach-in is to use engaging materials get people thinking about the realities of DRM and excited about DRM-free media. Come to do whatever is best for your comfort level - you can hand out info, or take it to the next level and have educational conversations with passersby. Only a basic understanding of DRM issues is required -- we'll provide handouts and flyers, as well as a knowledgeshare session beforehand to practice the explaining DRM.

We'll gather afterwards at [NEW LOCATION] Chinatown Express (746 6th St NW) to talk about DRM activism and share snacks and drinks courtesy of the Free Software Foundation. If you can only come for the flyering, or only come for Austin Grill, you are still more than welcome. RSVP encouraged.

Chicago

How much stuff do you think you "own," but really only have a limited license to use in specific ways?  You may be surprised to learn who is restricting your freedom to innovate and share information. Find out at "Day Against DRM" with the people of the Henry George School of Chicago.

We're an independent nonprofit school of political economy, teaching primarily based on ideas from Henry George.

We'll watch some videos dealing with open source, what it is, why it's essential for security, and how ill-conceived government practices prevent it. The program will be of interest to Georgists who want to learn more about how “intellectual” “property” interests restrict our freedom, to open source advocates concerned about the broader political economy in which we live, and to everyone concerned about freedom and security. It is of course open to the public without charge.

  • CONTACT: Ring <toshazed@gmail.com> and FOSS Bangladesh PR <contact@fossbd.org>

As you know FOSS Bangladesh is a voluntary, non-profit organization directly promoting and supporting Software and Hardware Freedom and User Rights knowledges here in Bangladesh since 2011. From 2013 we supported the cause to Day Against DRM raised by FSF. And with FSF campaigns we also joined with the global community with our Human tie up on Road here in Bangladesh. We found DRM or Digital Rights Management is going very wrong by the corporations and IT giants, used as DRM or Digital Restrictions Management, hurshly implant to ensure disrepecfully denying the rights of mass people as to make a great monopoly. And to leak out such conspiracy doings we stand out on the road at the key point of University of Dhaka and tried to get noticed by the next generation leaders of Bangladesh the pupils of University of Dhaka as they should be aware of these type of evil doings and it's cruel effects in the IT world. In 2016 we found this day much more important and we are going to meet up some of our writers, poets, novelists, artists, university students and teachers together in our event here in Dhaka and try to make them be informed about DRM. And our regular tie up in front of a DRM supporting organization also continued.

We have had a great event today, May 3 Tuesday 2016.We gathered together and shared our views and comments and have a great discussion on "Why to eliminate DRM". This discussion session was one and half hour long. After this session we have a tie up in front of nearby digital DRM'd device reseller like Sony and Samsung.
