Minutes of Meeting of 12th October 2009

Time: 19:15, Monday 12th October 2009.

Present: Michael (minutes), Leslie, Bill.

Apologies: Lucy (chair), Matt M (treasurer).

Introductions

Bill introduced himself. Bill describes himself as interested in free software but non-technical.

Last Meeting

Minutes of last meeting dated 7th September 2009, were approved as correct.

Announcements and other business

MDDA. Room available for 3rd Wednesday of the month. We can use this to do workshops, hopefully, related to the talk on Tuesday. Leslie has got in contact with them while doing publicity for Software Freedom Day. Alan Holding is considering using free software at MDDA and is wanting to get free software related groups to use MDDA.

ACTION: - Leslie to create workshop for Wednesday 21st October 2009. And post to list and website.

Speakers

December meeting to be a Christmas party and key signing. Don't need to book room for talk.

Michael says Steven McIntyre wouldn't come up especially and he doesn't know much in advance when he'll be up.

Michael mentioned the Manchester/Speakers list of speakers.

Michael said that "Manchester Digital event" must be referring to "MMU Pro-Dev" event.

ACTION: - Tim to find out when the MMU Pro-Dev event is to take place.

ACTION: - Tim to put October speaker on wiki. Manchester/Meetings#Group_Meetings.

ACTION: - Tim to confirm Chris Warburton speaking for November and put on wiki. Manchester/Meetings#Group_Meetings.

Software Freedom Day

Leslie reported it went really well. Main thing that went wrong was that contact details for the group where missing from literature. We wouldn't get catering next time.

Planning for next year. Venue - Manchester Uni again. Will wait until next year before we start contact people and doing more planning.

ACTION: - Leslie to write a report.

ACTION: - Michael to write a report.

Anarchist Book Fair

Michael sold 6 "Free Software, Free Society" @ £10 each. Suggests that we have a stall there next year. Made contact with a book seller interested in buying more of the book. Leslie mentioned how having a bank account would make it easier for receiving money.

ACTION: - Michael to contact book seller about buying more "Free Software, Free Society".

ACTION: - Leslie to investigate setting up group bank account.

Merchandise

Book pricing. Michael suggests reducing pricing, perhaps to rounded numbers.

Ideas to sell them. Anarchist Book Fair next year. Book seller.

Stickers. Out of GPLv3, Defective by Design. Need new Windows7sins stickers.

ACTION: - Tim to contact FSF for stickers. GPLv3, Defective by Design, Windows7sins.

LUG Radio Live

Attending: Leslie (take leaflets and stickers), Mike (take some of the books), Lucy (2009-10-19 - now not attending), Simon, Tim (helping or walking there).

ACTION: - Leslie to print out leaflets. Manchester/Publicity/Materials.

ACTION: - Michael to post to list asking for help.

Logo Competition

Logo does need refining. Need to speak to Pete.

While discussing T-shirt printing the subject of getting Luke on the team mailing list came up.

ACTION: - Michael to email Pete to discuss refining logo and to discuss getting his prize to him.

ACTION: - Michael to ask Luke and team about T-shirt printing.

ACTION: - Leslie to get Luke on team mailing list.
