Manchester Free Software Minutes

Attendance: Lucy, Matt M, Dave, Mark W, Michael, Simon

Last Meeting

The minutes of the 12th January 2009 were read and approved with the following amendment:- delete from Any Other Business "Simon told the group that he intended to add help files to the group's existing Live CD" and insert "Simon suggested that if a live CD were to be created, help files be added suggesting alternative free software sources" and delete ACTION "Simon to add help files to Live CD".


Announcement

Dave told the group about the Convention of Modern Liberties taking place on the 28th February and invited Manchester Free Software to host a workshop session.


Room Booking

BBC booked for February, room availability at MDDA after March to be clarified. The group to vote on future venues other than MDDA.


Speakers

Simon announced that John Adams is to be the speaker for March.

ACTION: Lucy, Tim and Dave to chase up potential speakers. ACTION: Michael to chase up Chris Warburton of Sheffield Free Software Society.


Books

Despite recent efforts within the group, the FSF have yet to confirm when the books will be made available.

ACTION: Michael to chase Matt Lee again about the books.


Banking

The meeting approved the groups Constitution subject to amending clause 3 iv. adding 'to be seconded by another existing Administrative Committee Member'

ACTION: Matt M to produce business plan and complete bank account forms.


Marbella Cafe

The group awaits further news regarding the opening of the cafe.

ACTION: Michael to contact Marbella to find when computers can be moved in.


The Arcspace Project

Michael and Simon attended a recent meeting of the project. It is believed that the project has yet to find a permanent venue.

ACTION: Michael to e-mail Vicky Sinclair of Arcspace the groups mission statement.


Any other business

Dave has had several enquiries regarding the group running Ubuntu training. Dave has also been asked to run a workshop 'Communicating Securely and Anonymously over the Internet' aimed at campaign groups.

ACTION: Dave to look into providing workshops and send details to list when details known.
