This website is for developers to try out new ideas and debug code, templates, and functions. It may be the future of <i>FSF Groups</i>, or not. Many ideas will be tried, but not all accepted.

This is the FSF Support Group Website for LibrePlanet. It is a pilot project to investigate the tools and support a group needs to operate proactively and also co-ordinate public awareness campaigns.

Most of our effort will be on designing templates that will structure pages and provide intuitive site navigation. The ultimate goal is to allow groups to coordinate their activities and utilize each member's skills effectively.
+
This is a typical group in all respects with the exceptions that it researches, develops, and maintains LibrePlanet resources.

Currently, users are accepted as group members based on good faith and trust. It is recognized that pages can be freely edited and this can result in unwanted changes to group membership. To minimize this, we should provide some features that ensure members remain members and prospective members are approved by the group.
+
Our prime function is to support existing groups in creating new ones. Ideally, we would like every member to start their own group. New groups are added to the group network forming group families. We recognize each group has unique needs and skills, so our goal is to provide a uniform operation framework that does not interfere with the group's unique requirements.

Our second function is to provide educational material for creating and operating a group. Research in this area is ongoing and depends on members providing insightful feedback. By gathering experience from members around the world, we expect the educational content to become increasingly informative and relevant. We also expect to solve the ever present need to localize education through member participation.

Our third function is to provide member support through guidelines in conflict resolution, crisis management, and leadership. Our overriding objective is to ensure a group remains focused on its purpose, able, and willing to achieve it. Our second objective is to ensure the issue is contained within the affected group(s). However, any member can push an issue through to us, and if the matter is still unresolved, refer it to the FSF itself for final resolution.
No projects have been created.

Our policies, guidelines, and authority is defined by the Free Software Foundation (FSF) through LibrePlanet's Project. The FSF may elect a committee, who are not members of this group, to oversee the LibrePlanet project. Their task is to review the project periodically, determine policy, report to the FSF, and resolve conflicts of interest between LibrePlanet and the FSF.
This page is an example of what the proposed website templates will produce. The main template consists of three other templates:

<dl>

<dt>Group/Menubar

<dd>The menubar provides standard links, which serve several purposes:

* Structure the website by defining specific subpages. Each of these pages will have their own template and link back to this page.

* Provide navigation within the website and between namespaces. The Project link points to the Project namespace, while the Usage link accesses the Help namespace.

* Create group-wide categories which can be navigated independently from any group's page. To find out the different requirements to join, simiply access the Join category. Similarly, for FAQ, News, and Mission statements.

<dt>Group/Title

<dd>Displays the first word in one colour and the rest in another. The <i>note</i> field (text between the lines) can act as an alert, or message of the day, or simply the group's slogan.

<dt>Group/Box

<dd>The info box provides useful data about the group and how it can be contacted.

<dl>

<dt>Region

<dd>All regions should appear in Category:Regions and this should link to one of its sub-categories (e.g. Category:Regions/Web_only). Until the region schema has been finalized, this should link to the current Regions page.

<dt>Area

<dd>As with Regions, this should link to the Category:Area sub-page (e.g. Category:Area/Web_only). However, the current practice is to link to the appropriate Area page.

<dt>Language

<dd>Identifies the group's primary language, although it can be a list of acceptable languages.

<dt>Website

<dd>Where a group has an official website, it can be linked to from here.

<dt>List

<dd>A public mailing list for anyone to send mail. The list may have its own restrictions, so it need not be public at all. If a group has more than one list, they can shown here.

<dt>Contact

<dd>The primary member responsible for the group. The contact must be registered on <i>FSF Groups</i> and this field provides a link to the User page.

<dt>Members

<dd>This is not particularly useful, it just gives the total members in the group. Once the membership sub-system is finalized, this may be used or replaced.

</dl>

<dt>Group

<dd>This template wraps the others and provides all the necessary fields. It handles the description and subpages itself.

</dl>

An example of the Group template is shown below:

This is the FSF Support Group Website for LibrePlanet. It is a pilot project to investigate the tools and support a group needs to operate proactively and also co-ordinate public awareness campaigns.

This is a typical group in all respects with the exceptions that it researches, develops, and maintains LibrePlanet resources.
