Replacing Skype with free software and peer-to-peer VoIP
I will be speaking on enabling the creation of bottom-up user empowered secure real-time communication networks to preserve privacy and as a means of asymmetric warfare on the practice of mass communication surveillance. For this purpose we are developing secure peer-to-peer VoIP services in the GNU project using GNU SIP Witch and secure softphone clients using the GNU ZRTP stack. Our goal is to replace source secret clients, libraries, protocols, and remote intermediary service providers, such as represented in Skype, with free software and published protocols.
